In the Geilo area, you will find over 50 alpine slopes, large and small snow parks, and many frolic areas. There are 39 slopes of different level and 18 lifts situated in Geilo.

Geilo devotes considerable resources to pave the way for everyone who uses the ski facilities. Well-groomed slopes in all categories, efficient ski lifts, ski patrol, and separate areas for the small ones, ensure safe and good ski experiences regardless of skill level. The ski slopes are located close to the center. You can ski down the slopes, take off your skis, and walk right into the stores and restaurants. Several nights a week Geilo offers night skiing. If you like snow parks, you can choose between four parks in Geilo, in which both beginners and more skilled skiers will find challenges.

In Geilo, you can rent modern equipment in all categories. At the ski rental, you can also get help to adjust bindings, and prepare and upgrade your own equipment.
Do you want to fine tune your skiing techniques? The ski schools in Geilo have knowledgeable and experienced instructors that can teach you and give tips on how you can become better on snow.

A ski bus runs all day, from your accommodation, to the slope, between the two mountains, and back to your accommodation again. Free of charge.

The tracks around the Ustedalsfjorden Lake is made for families with children, with information boards about the areas nature and culture.

Geilo is known for its many cozy dining offers in the mountains. These can almost be a trip goal in itself. Some of these are located just a short ski trip away, and work well for those with small children. Others again demand a little longer trip. Common for all of them is that you can come in and warm yourselves while you enjoy something hot in a cup and real home-baked goods.

Things to do

Winter Sports

Offering some impressive scenery this is one of Norway’s oldest and most famous ski resorts. The scenic Bergen to Oslo Railway line runs through the charming village which lies at an altitude of 800m. Despite this relatively low altitude, its geographic location and climate make it extremely snow-sure.

Summer sports

Geilo will particularly appeal to families and those looking for an overall winter experience with its great choice of winter activities and excursions including; horse sleigh rides, husky dog-sledding, night skiing, guided cross country trips, snowshoeing, ice fishing, Langedrag Nature Park & Mountain Farm and a Tree Top Walk/high ropes course.

On the slopes, Geilo is undoubtedly a great choice for newcomers to skiing/boarding with unintimidating and uncrowded slopes. The award winning ski school is especially focused on first-timers, children are extremely well catered for and all the instructors speak excellent English. Intermediate skiers will enjoy the wide open, uncrowded, cruising reds, the longest being 2km.

For those more experienced, whilst the runs are relatively short they’re particularly well prepared making it a great playground for honing skills. Indeed, Geilo regularly hosts ski team training and there are some superb terrain parks plus a few off-piste opportunities to challenge the more adventurous, although it is most definitely a downhill resort best geared towards first-timers and families.
